An osteopathic manual practitioner (OMP) specializes in using hands-on techniques to assess, diagnose, and treat various musculoskeletal conditions. Their approach focuses on the relationship between the body's structure—such as bones, muscles, and joints—and its function, aiming to promote overall health and well-being.

Here’s what an OMP typically does:

Assessment: They perform a thorough physical examination, looking at posture, movement, and any areas of pain or dysfunction. This assessment helps identify issues in the musculoskeletal system and how these might be affecting other body systems.

Manual Therapy: The core of their practice involves hands-on techniques, which may include:

Soft tissue manipulation

Joint mobilization or manipulation

Stretching and muscle energy techniques

Myofascial release

Craniosacral therapy

Pain Relief and Function Improvement: By adjusting joints, relaxing muscles, and improving circulation, OMPs help relieve pain, enhance mobility, and restore function.

Holistic Approach: Osteopathic manual practitioners often consider lifestyle factors, including exercise, nutrition, and stress management, providing advice and exercises to support long-term health.

Prevention and Wellness: Beyond treating existing conditions, they work to prevent future issues by improving posture, movement patterns, and overall physical health.

OMP practices are commonly used for back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, joint problems, headaches, and even issues like digestive or respiratory conditions, given the holistic approach to body function.
